Mission Statement

To become an "onshore island" attraction whilst helping create more awareness in people to care for their environment.

A shocking one in eight (or 12%) of the world's bird species have a real risk of becoming extinct in the next 25 years. People are driving this extinction crisis, with 99% of threatened birds suffering from human activities such as agriculture, logging, hunting and trapping.

New Zealand is a land of many animals found nowhere else in the world, a pre human land with almost no predators of it's larger species, these were all birds, one the Moa being the largest bird found anywhere. Covered from shore to shore with rainforest, the ground too cold to hatch eggs so all but one of it's reptiles give birth to live young,. Today less than 12% of the original wetlands (Natures Water Purifier) survive, most that do remain are either greatly stressed or under threat from development of land and fertiliser runoff feeding into them. The bush bird song is quieter than 30 years ago, our national symbol the kiwi is in dire straits, and what is left of our native species is under seige from exotic invaders such as mustelids (ferrets etc.) - possibly the biggest unseen menace of all.

All these species rely on others for their survival, all strands of the complex web that had evolved in isolation from the rest of the world, some native plants needing to pass through a birds intestinal tract to help them germinate. Each small part of the web needs help from all of us to preserve them for future generations enjoyment. Living Art is trying to create an " Onshore Island" that in the future can be used for breeding programs for native and threatened exotic species, these programmes will help breed animals for future wild release whilst helping preserve genetic stock.

If we can help the parents of the future, our present children, get in touch with the environment maybe more people will join NATURE'S cause for ultimately it is their own children's living conditions they will be ensuring.
